KEEP THE SPEACH is a multi-discipline design concept created for UN/UNESCO and Canada Post for the International Year of Indigenous Languages. This design concept promotes, modernizes, and preserves Indigenous languages that are endangered.
The name KEEP THE SPEACH is a clever play on words that gives a clear call to action, encouraging people to be vocal and keep the conversation going when it comes to endangered Indigenous languages.
The design features clean, simple, contour line drawings of a fox, bird, and fish. Animals have been used in storytelling for thousands of years in almost every culture around the world. Those stories passed from generation to generation helped to teach life lessons, behavior and knowledge of the past. The fox, the bird, and the fish represent three important elements of the animal kingdom and are all a part of both ancient and present storytelling.
The KEEP THE SPEACH design incorporates the speech bubble which is a modern, worldwide symbol for speech and communication for all ages in many diverse cultures. This symbol is used to encourage people to pass the knowledge of their languages to younger generations and communicate the importance of their language before they become extinct.
